Description

Microdilution antimicrobial susceptibility test for both salmonella vaccine strains of AviPro® SALMONELLA VAC E and AviPro® SALMONELLA VAC T and overall field bacteria isolated from poultry flocks.

The format of the AviPro® PLATE facilitates the standardised and quality assured microdilution antimicrobial susceptibility testing procedure in poultry veterinary diagnostic laboratories. For control of successful vaccination, the AviPro® PLATE allows discrimination of field salmonella from salmonella metabolic drift mutants contained in AviPro® SALMONELLA VAC E and AviPro® SALMONELLA VAC T.

For appropriate therapeutic intervention in poultry flocks, the use of the plate aid to evaluate the activity of antimicrobial agents against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Thus information is provided on the poultry health status with regard to quantitative changes in susceptibility and resistance of bacterial isolates to antimicrobial agents. The antimicrobial activity is determined by breakpoint testing procedure and expressed as minimal inhibitory concentrations (MICs). The data generated by this method is designed to be objective and unbiased by the laboratory’s interpretation of values. The performance of the test procedure broadly follow the documentation of the standard performance criteria issued by the Clinical and Laboratory Standard Institute (CLSI), formerly National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS), Wayne, Pennsylvania, USA. Thus the AviPro® PLATE is meant to contribute to establishing internationally accepted standards on antimicrobial resistance in animals and in animal-derived food.
